Welcome to simplepianoguide.com! My name is Max Jacobson and I am a pianist and teacher in the Provo, Utah area. I starting taking piano lessons at the age of 5. I remember being so excited about it because I wanted to play like my older sister did.

If you ask my mom, she’ll tell you she never had to ask me to practice. While not completely true, I did enjoy learning all through my youth. I participated in piano recitals, competitions, and volunteered as a pianist at my local church.

Moments after I absolutely killed it at a piano competition playing “Surfboard Boogie

At the age of 15, I began teaching piano lessons to one of the neighborhood kids. I wasn’t actively looking to teach, but her parents insisted, so I decided to build a little business out of it.

It wasn’t long before I had over 15 students and this little part time job became something much more. I was building lesson plans, partnering with other teachers, and organizing recitals.

I noticed I began to excel better at my own piano learning and realized teaching was a great way for me to relearn the basics over and over again.

Fast forward to today, I have over 27 years of experience playing the piano. I’ve continued to teach throughout adulthood and have continued volunteering as the pianist at my local church.

I started simplepianoguide.com to document my experiences as a resource for myself and others. I hope to help those learning piano, teaching piano, and having fun in the process.

Thanks for stopping by!
